A devious landlord threatens to seize the land of a poor farmer, Shambu (Balraj Sahani) and his family, which is their only means of livelihood. To pay off his debts, Shambu goes to the city of Kolkata, reluctantly taking his son, Kanhaiya with him, and works as a rickshaw puller. He meets with a minor accident in an attempt to earn more money, by pulling the rickshaw faster. When Shambus pregnant wife hears of his accident, she travels to Kolkata but is molested by a man she meets in the city. Trying to escape from him, she runs out into the street and is hit by a car. Shambu must now use his hard-earned money to save his hospitalised wife. Will Shambhu be able to save his land?
